Summer Rolls On

Wow, the summer is finally here which means group rides, racing and outdoor fun.

The Cross Country Sports crew has been hard an work with a lot on the agenda. First is the Portage Health Junior Cycling Program that is co-sponsored this year by Cross Country Sports. Every Tuesday we meet with kids to get them out on the trails at different locales throughout the Keweenaw region. Wednesdays we host group rides for all ages and abilities. It's a great way to get out and learn the trails. On Friday mornings, the Cross Country Sports Junior Race Team hits the trails for training. To get involved in any of the above either as a participant or a leader, please contact the shop.

In June, the Keweenaw Chain Drive Festival was another success..and a great success for a number of our employees. Highlights were the dual crowns for Pete and Nina Karinen as they stomped their way to 16 mile titles. Congrats also to Hendrick Haataja and Oscar Karinen for their top 20 finishes, and Pat Szub and Clay Guillory for excellent finishes as well. Full results and links to pictures can be found at www.chaindrive.org.

Did I mention we have some fast riders at the store? This month, the Karinen duo (Pete and Nina)are off to the National MTB Championships in Sun Valley, Idaho thanks to top results in The Wisconsin Off Road Series and Subaru Cup. Good luck Pete and Nina...show'em what you got!

Trails Are Open for Riding!

Reports are that trails are in great shape with a few soggy areas and downed trees here and there. A few more weeks and things will dry out a little more and the trail crews will have cleaned up debris. A later start than last year, but who's counting? Copper Harbor group rides are already starting up this week and Trekkers have had scheduled rides for the last couple weeks.

Lots to look forward to in the next couple weeks including the Great Lakes MTB Summit on May 27th hosted by IMBA and the Ride the Keweeanaw on May 28th and 29th hosted by the Keweenaw Trails Alliance and Copper Harbor Trails Club. Find out more at www.keweenawtrails.com The weekend includes Women's Trek demos at Swedetown Trails on Saturday from 3pm-6pm and a Women's Clinic by Trek on Sunday at 10am in Copper Harbor.

Get your ride tuned up because we are only on the edge of another great riding season.
