Crust Season

The snow is starting to get a little to hard for soft landings (demonstrated here by an anonymous Keweenaw showshoer) so it must be getting close to crust skiing time. Yes that magical time of the year when you can cruise through the trees where there are no trails. It takes a few freeze-thaw cycles but once the snow settles you can regularly head out for a morning ski when temps are cold enough. One of our favorite destinations is Trimountain, where the snow seems to last forever, but there's plenty of areas to find great crust including the Lake Superior shoreline. Get out while you can because bike season is on its way.......

Speaking of bikes...both the Calumet and Houghton Stores are looking more like bike shops daily. Skis are disappearing and being replaced by a lot of machines with two wheels. Stop in and visit while we ramp up for our next favorite season...
